Chakra Basics - Quick Breakdown Of Your 7 Energy Centers

There's a lot of buzz about Chakras and energy here lately. Some may consider it to be a 'trend' however it actually dates back to 1500-500 B.C. in the Vedic texts of India. So what is a chakra? Simply it is an area of the body that is dense with energy. Although several of the chakras align with the areas that have vital organs, they are typically associated with subtle or energy body rather than the physical body. There are 7 main chakras, starting from the root of the spine to the top of the head. They are nestled right through the center of our body. Chakras as sometimes characterized as wheels or discs that continuously rotate as energy moves through us in an upward and downward motion. It is said that when your chakras are healthy and vital that they are 'open' however when the energy is stagnate or not flowing that your chakras are blocked or 'closed'.

Let's touch on the basic 7 chakras, from the head down. 1. Crown Chakra The crown connects us to our higher self and to the universe. It's located at the top of the head and is associated with wisdom, consciousness, a connection to spirituality, and intuitive knowing. It has the ability to bring us happiness and allows us to understand the true nature of reality. Balanced Feeling of oneness with the universe, open-minded, intelligent, thoughtful, more open, more effective learning, cosmic consciousness, and spiritual awareness Imbalanced Physical: Chronic exhaustion and sensitivity to light and sound 2. Third Eye Chakra This is our source of intuition, vision, imagination, and clairvoyance. It is located in the middle of the forehead and it represents the ability to see beyond our material selves. Balanced Creative visualization, imaginations, manifestation, intuition, cosmic consciousness/understanding Imbalanced Headaches, nightmares, eye-strain, learning disabilities. panic depression, blindness 3. Throat Chakra This is located exactly where the name states, the throat. This chakra is associated with expression and communication, not only between the self and others, but also between one's own mind and body. It connects our ability to speak and listen, to sing, to express our thoughts creatively, and let our true selves show. Balanced Creative and expressive, constructive communication, centered, conscious listening, positive self-expression Imbalanced Thyroid dysfunctions, sore throat, lack of faith and willpower, poor decision making and personal expression, low creativity, and addictions 4. Heart Chakra The heart chakra is located at the body's heart center and extends throughout the arms and hands. This chakra is associated with affinity, unity, healing, balance, relationships and compassion. Balanced Feeling of completeness, wholesome and unconditional love, compassionate, empathic, friendly, optimistic, motivated, and outgoing Imbalanced Thoracic spine, upper back and shoulder problems, difficulty with love, lack of hope, compassion, and confidence 5. Solar Plexus Chakra Located under the upper abdomen, just under the rib cage. The solar plexus is our source of power and confidence. Its associated with our inner fire, will, energy, self-esteem, and essence of transformation. Balanced Energetic, confident, intelligent, decisive, productive Imbalanced Diabetes, pancreatitis, adrenal imbalances, low blood pressure 6. Sacral Chakra The sacral chakra is all about movement, fluidity, and change. Its associate with creativity, emotions, and sensuality. It is located in the lower abdomen and is connected with the womb in women, and with attraction and reproduction. Balanced Feeling of compassion, friendly, intuitive, vital, sexual, satisfied, prosperous Imbalanced Lower back pain, sciatica, decreased libido, irritability, shyness, guilt, blame, obsession with sex 7. Root Chakra The root chakra is at the lowest part of your torso, or the base of your spine. Your root chakra is associated with birth, survival, safety, and stability. It is all the things necessary for the rest of life to unfold, including food and water, shelter, and a sense of belonging. It is our connection to nature, to our family, to our origins. Balanced Feeling of grounded, centered, committed and independent with energy and vitality Imbalanced Insomnia, low energy, lower back pain, constipation, ungrounded, fearful, rage and anger, low self-esteem, and insecure
