Who, What, Why - Spiritual Teacher/Mentor
In general, a teacher or mentor is a person who guides, instructs, or helps another in the process of gaining knowledge, understanding, or skills. The teacher usually has something specific to transmit, and there is often an implied assumption that the student will have more understanding or be better off when the teaching is completed. What is a spiritual teacher? I’ve read several different perspectives of what a spiritual teacher could mean, however here is my simplified understanding. A spiritual teacher can come in many shapes, sizes, colors, and sexes. So this person or object is empowering us in healing ones energy/karma and teaches mind/body/spirit practices that help others along the way of awakening to our true nature. A spiritual teacher may teach a lot or they may not teach anything at all, however it is dependent on what that student needs at that time. So in other words, this spiritual teacher will give you want you are looking for. The role of a spiritual teacher/mentor… A spiritual teacher/mentor role is unique because the goal isn’t to transmit knowledge or understanding but it is to somehow bring about acknowledgement for the student’s and point out something that is already present in the student. So the function of the spiritual teacher operates on a relative level until it is no longer needed by the student. Why use a spiritual teacher/mentor? A spiritual teacher doesn’t have all your answers, however they can provide tools and resources to help you uncover what you already knew. The path of spiritual teaching is simply a function that serves great use while on your spiritual journey. During your awakening journey, a spiritual teacher/mentor is a tool that aids others with uncovering what is within you. They will help you uncover the things that are buried beneath all the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical damage and lies and direct you back to your authentic self. Watch out for the false/fake ones!!! Sadly, there are many proclaimed spiritual teachers that exist in the world. Their intentions are only to focus on a handful of things; getting rich, praying on others for sexual relations, and forming communities to become cult leaders. These people can be dangerous however it is important to know they exists in our world. Allow the wisdom within you to guide you to the person you are seeking. Use your intuition!!! There are so many spiritual teachers that are readily at your fingertips. However a spiritual teacher should be considered your ally and not a friend. They will help you find the deepest and purest truth within you. However they will say many things that will upset you and/or thrust you into difficult parts of yourself so you face your darkness; There’s no ego pampering from spiritual teachers. You will grow to appreciate your spiritual teacher because of the freedom they will help you uncover and help you destroy illusions and cut away lies from your past, present, and future.
